Chocolate Chip Cookies are an all-time favorite, and I’ve always been on the lookout for the perfect recipe. After a fair bit of experimenting, I landed on this one from Betty Crocker, and it’s been my go-to ever since. I used sweet chocolate chips, so I cut down the quantity to 1 cup instead of the 2 cups of semisweet chips in the original recipe and skipped the nuts altogether to keep it simple.

I usually make these for my kids, who are absolute cookie monsters, and honestly, who can blame them? Soft, chewy, chocolatey, and super easy to whip up whenever snack cravings hit. Whether you’re baking for a crowd or just for fun, this one’s definitely worth a try!

Ingredients

Chocolate Chip Cookies

    Directions

Making these cookies is a simple, satisfying process. Perfect for a weekend bake or an afternoon treat with the kids. The ingredients come together quickly, and before you know it, you’ll have a batch of freshly baked cookies filling your kitchen with that unmistakable, warm baking smell.

    Step1

Prepare the dry ingredients: Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.

    Step2

Cream the butter and sugars: In a stand mixer or using a hand mixer, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and creamy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix again until fully combined.

    Step3

Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the sifted flour mixture into the butter mixture. Use a spatula to gently fold the ingredients together until fully combined.

    Step4

Add chocolate chips: Stir in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

    Step5

Lay out the cookies: Scoop portions of the cookie dough onto an ungreased baking tray, spacing each scoop about 2 inches apart to give them room to spread.

    Step6

Bake to perfection: Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (Gas Mark 5) for 8–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers remain soft.

    Step7

Cool the cookies: Let the cookies cool on the baking tray for a couple of minutes before carefully transferring them to a wire rack.

    Step8

Serve/Store: Serve the cookies once completely cooled or store the cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh.

    Conclusion

Whether you enjoy them fresh and warm right out of the oven or save them for later with a cup of tea or coffee, these chocolate chip cookies are always a win. Crispy on the edges, soft in the middle, and packed with melty chocolate, they’re exactly the kind of treat you’ll want to bake again and again.
